Noted publisher of Grand Theft Auto series acquires respected PC game developer.

Despite a recently released financial report delivering bad news for the current financial quarter, New York-based publisher Take Two Interactive confirmed this morning that it would be acquiring noted PC developer Irrational Games. Irrational's most recent titles included the self-published squad-based strategy title Freedom Force vs. the Third Reich, and SWAT 4, a tactical shooter for Vivendi Universal. Both titles received tremendous critical acclaim and were two of GameSpy's Top Ten PC games of the year.
Stretching back, Irrational continues to be noted for publishing System Shock 2, which remains a high-water mark in the action/RPG field and is widely considered to be one of the best games published for the PC platform. Irrational's future titles will be published under Take Two's "2K Games" brand, starting with the upcoming BioShock in 2007 for the PC and unnamed consoles. BioShock has been touted by Irrational as a "spiritual successor" to System Shock 2," a trademarked franchise held by EA.
Take Two Interactive is the home of the notable Grand Theft Auto series, a powerhouse on console systems with the most recent iteration, San Andreas, and Liberty City Stories debuting to strong sales. Despite this, the company has been plagued by bad news in the last year, including the much-ballyhooed "Hot Coffee" controversy, and disappointing sales on non-GTA games. The acquisition of Irrational also follows a recent pattern of companies such as Namco that traditionally make their mark in the console world trying to branch out into the PC world. |

In caz ca nu stiati, premiile Zmeura de Aur sunt decernate celor mai prosti dintre prostii industriei filmului. Actorul cu prestatia cea mai jalnica, filmul cel mai penibil, regizorul cel mai neinspirat si netalentat, ei sunt mandrii castigatori ai premiilor. Pe scurt, Zmeura de Aur este anti-Oscarul.
Anul acesta, colectia de nominalizari are in primele randuri productii inspirate din lumea jocurilor. Nici nu e de mirare. Pana acum acum n-am vazut un film bun inspirat de un joc si nici nu cred ca voi vedea prea curand.
Dupa cum era de asteptat, neamtul Uwe Boll a insfacat nominalizarea pentru Worst Director, cu fascinantul Alone in the dark. Ca sa nu fie singur pe podium, Tara Reid a venit sa-l sustina din postura de Worst Actress (performanta realizata tot in Alone in the dark). In final, apare si Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, propus Worst Actor pentru rolul sau din Doom. Probabil ca se vor intalni toti trei la ceremonie si vor discuta despre viitorul film Far-Cry, ca tot voia Uwe sa joace Stanca in film. Sau poate ca ar trebui sa-i spun Bolovanul.

Update to NCsoft's sinister MMORPG adds high-level zones, new missions. Heroes also get new graphics, tweaks.
NCsoft today revealed the plans for the first update to City of Villains, the massively multiplayer online role-playing game dedicated to super villainy. Issue 7: Destiny Manifest will be a free auto update for paying subscribers to the PC game and will be released this April.
New Mayhem Missions will see bad guys attacking Paragon City with new timed missions. The open-ended missions let gamers rob stores, take on the police, and harass citizens, while destroying city blocks and gaining bonus rewards.
Villains will also get a new set of more than 300 missions, new Patron Power Pools, new Power sets, and the high-level zone of Grandville, where mutated spiders and Lord Recluse will do their best to stop gamers.
City of Heroes will also benefit from the update, with new user-interface tweaks, graphical upgrades, and features being installed in both games.
City of Villains is rated T for Teen and retails for $39.99. For more information on the game, zoom over to GameSpot's review.

Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment secures TV license for its maiden voyage into game development.
With Stargate SG-1 on the verge of becoming the longest-running American sci-fi TV show ever, it seems about time that someone took a crack at turning it into a massively multiplayer online role-playing game for PCs. That someone will be the new development house Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, the company announced today.
Stargate Worlds will let players explore the universe of the film as soldiers and scientists, creating alliances and trade while defending humanity from hostile alien forces. Little has been revealed about the title, but it will draw upon both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis for inspiration.
While Cheyenne Mountain has no games to its credit, its management team has plenty of industry experience. Vice president of product development Joseph Ybarra started in the industry more than two decades ago as a producer with Electronic Arts. Games to his credit include PC classics such as M.U.L.E. and Wasteland and MMO games like Shadowbane and The Matrix Online. Art director Stu Rose worked on many of Blizzard's PC hits, from Diablo to World of Warcraft, while creative director Chris Klug cut his teeth as a game designer with the 1981 sci-fi RPG Universe and in more recent years worked on the sci-fi MMORPG Earth & Beyond.
Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment and MGM Interactive entered into the licensing agreement for Stargate Worlds last September, shortly after a previous game based on the TV series apparently imploded. A release date for Stargate Worlds has yet to be announced.

Bethesda nu a anuntat nici o data concreta, dar se pare ca mult asteptatul RPG al anului se aproprie de lansare. Nu putem sa facem nimic altceva decat sa asteptam si de ce nu sa mai facem un upgrade la sistemul nostru deja antic pentru un nou an de gaming. Situatie nu este roz, deci va prezint cerintele de sistem la Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
